*Secretary Clinton Launches New Financing Mechanism to *

*Increase Clean Energy Investment in Africa*

/Rio de Janeiro, June 21, 2012 - /At the Rio+20 UN Conference on 
Sustainable Development, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will 
announce Friday the launch of a new financing mechanism for clean 
energy.  The announcement will be made in conjunction with Elizabeth 
Littlefield, President and CEO of the Overseas Private Investment 
Corporation (OPIC). The mechanism plans to align different types of U.S. 
financial support to catalyze higher levels of private sector investment 
in clean energy projects, primarily in Africa.

*Rio+20 credentialed journalists must be escorted by a delegate to cover 
the event.  Journalists should gather at the main entrance of RioCentro 
Pavilion 4, where an escort will be available.  The event will take 
place on Friday, June 22.  Pre-set time for video cameras and stills: 
9:45 a.m.  Final access time for journalists: 10:00 a.m.*

/Rio de Janeiro, 21 junho de 2012 - /A Secretária de Estado dos Estados 
Unidos, Hillary Rodham Clinton, anunciará na sexta-feira, 22 de junho, 
na Conferência de Desenvolvimento Sustentável da ONU, Rio+20, o 
lançamento de um novo mecanismo de financiamento em energia limpa. O 
anúncio será feito juntamente com a presidente e CEO da Corporação para 
Investimentos Privados Internacionais (OPIC na sigla em inglês), 
Elizabeth Littlefield.  O mecanismo tem por objetivo alavancar 
diferentes tipos de apoio financeiro dos EUA para proporcionar maiores 
níveis de investimento do setor privado em projetos de energia limpa, 
principalmente na África.

*Jornalistas credenciados para a Rio+20 somente poderão entrar na sala 
do evento, que acontecerá no Pavilhão 4 (RioCentro),  acompanhados por 
um delegado dos EUA, que estará devidamente identificado. Os 
profissionais da imprensa devem se reunir na entrada do pavilhão na 
sexta-feira, 22/6, nos seguintes horários: TVs e fotógrafos - 9h45;
