6 Syrians, 3 Lebanese charged with smuggling arms into Syria

BEIRUT: Military Judge Sakr Sakr charged six Syrians and three
Lebanese with smuggling arms into Syria through the Masharih al-Qaa
area.

Four of the Syrian suspects and two of the Lebanese have been detained.

The suspects were caught with two trucks filled with arms.

Several people have been charged with smuggling arms into Syria since
the uprising against President Bashar Assad's government began last
year. Syria has urged Lebanon to control the poorly demarcated border,
which spans 330 kilometers, in a bid to control arms trading and
smuggling.

Both the Lebanese and Syrian armies have strengthened their presence
along the border, including in several towns.
