Await another Eskom

Well, well, well. Finally some sanity. The Third Umpire (March 11)
refers to the "long shadow" of Maria Ramos, relative to the huge and
unwarranted increase in pipeline tariffs.

Ramos, with her strong financial background, has always been the
darling of the press, but does her Transnet record warrant that? Yes,
she did clean up the balance sheet, but in the process sold the V&A
Waterfront investment, pegged annual increases within the pension fund
to exploitative levels, simply dumped the money-sapping SA Airways
monster and revalued assets at will.

The railways have virtually been sacrificed and she has loaded her
board with loyal cadres in true African National Congress fashion,
most of whom earn way beyond their worth. Check their pre-Transnet
business track records to verify this.

With Ramos now rightly where she should always have been — in the
financial sector — the chickens will soon come home to roost.

Here comes another Eskom.
