[DEBATE] : Fireworks.

One fireworks is the Woolworths strike for union recognition, led by SACCAWU.

This firm owned by the white-liberal Sieffs employs "permanent
casuals" and refuses union rights. This is a fight about "mac" jobs
versus what COSATU calles quality jobs and which matter Kgalema also
referred to in his address.

Even so it is going to be a hard one. It is very difficult for the
workers to carry this on their own. They need manifest public support.
Comrades, please find a way to assist them. Some international
solidarity would also not go amiss (e.g. from Marks and Spencer
workers in UK).

Another fireworks, even darker, is the massive slaughter of
mineworkers. Go to ctminiblog.blogsplot.com and search for NUM. There
are five reports in the first ten days of the miniblog's existence.
The figure is up around 130 already this year, killed. There is a
Presidential Safety Audit Report that Thabo Mbeki had been sitting on.
Now Kgalema is there, as an ex-General Secretary of NUM, and Gwede as
S-G of the ANC is another ex-General Secretary of NUM, so something
must happen.

This is another massive fight, also requiring international
solidarity. Do Canadian miners get slaughtered like this, for example?
If not, then why are SA miners having to suffer so? What's going on?
Write about it if you can, you intellectual intelligentsias, please.
