Getting back to the issue of benefits, what benefits are you toting up
(as variables) for instance:

1. - the main one - spreading risks more broadly
2. giving over-accumulation a vent
3. access to finance for "necessary" economic activities...
4. increased liquidity
5. distribution of "wealth"

What are the variables which would inform benefits?

Derivatives, allow for rabid speculation, and as we see, with grave
conseuquences. This type of speculation is very different from other
risk taking activities and I simply refuse to equate Wall Street
non-vanilla derivatives with "speculation" by for instance informal
traders/hawkers... there is a qualitative difference...
