Subject: Czech Young Communists Appeal Against Ban

Thanks to Bill Ronksley in Yorkshire for sending this report from the Prague
Monitor. KSM chairman Milan Krajca has visited Britain twice in the last two
years, once as a representative of the Czech Peace Movement.

Prague, May 15 (CTK) - The Czech Communist Youth Union (KSM) has filed a
complaint against the Prague City Court's verdict that endorsed the Interior
Ministry's decision to dissolve the group, KSM chairman Milan Krajca told
CTK Thursday.

In the complaint addressed to the Supreme Administrative Court the Young
Communists also asked about the postponement of the validity of the City
Court's ruling, Krajca said.

The Interior Ministry dissolved the group in October 2006, pointing to the
sentence in its programme documents saying that the association supports
efforts at revolutionary ousting of capitalism and installing economic
conditions for the future of socialism as a step to the creation of a
communist society.

The court agreed with the ministry's conclusion that the KSM's programme
contradicts the Czech Constitution and the Charter of Fundamental Rights and
Freedoms and is also incompatible with the fundamental democratic
principles.

Police first intervened against the KSM in Brno, south Moravia, when they
seized its slogans at a May Day demonstration organised by the junior
opposition Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSCM).

The same principle due to which the court confirmed the dissolution of the
KSM is contained in draft documents the KSCM prepared for its forthcoming
national congress that will take place in Hradec Kralove, east Bohemia, this
weekend.

It is the ousting of the capitalist system and replacing it with socialism
and communism and the lower and higher phases of a just, democratic and
humane society.

In the Declaration of Socialism the KSCM says it is high time for the
society of global capitalism that ensures the prosperity of the minority to
the detriment of the rest to leave the scene before its decadent elements
cause irreparable damage.

The Young Communists consider the dissolution of their organisation an
attack on the KSCM and the entire communist movement and criminalisation of
the communist ideology.

They say that they enjoy the support of thousands of Czech citizens, the
organisations of former anti-fascist fighters and partisans and certain
Czech political parties.

The Chamber of Deputies has also discussed the Interior Ministry's decision
on the initiative by KSCM's deputies.

The KSM has also received support from abroad.

The Young Communists say that they will not give up their activities in the
interest of the majority of the Czech young generation and for the sake of
socialism.

The KSM has organised a petition against the planned stationing of a U.S.
missile defence radar base on Czech soil that has been signed by over
160,000 people.

This story is from the Czech News Agency (âTK).

Undoubtedly, the ban on the Czech Youth Union is an attempt to silence
democratic and socialist activities in the Czech Republic and beyond. Anyone
wishing to express their support to the KSM may e-mail messages
