Calabar River

Roll on full waters, roll
full volume, silvery as fish-scaled
there are anguished records here,
bright images flaring from dark alcoves:
so much pain, grimly recorded
so much pain awaiting recording:
a President of Immortals would have great sport
with all our continent's bogusry:
still full silver Calabar flows.
