Subject: EASTERN CAPE BOOK LAUNCH
Dear Barbara
Thank you very much for the letter, which you send me yesterday that, by the
grace of mutual friends in the South African Social Movements, allowed the
Swiss Campaign space to deal with Jubilee South Africa. I shall find an
occasion later to say something about this to you all in an effort to
strengthen out things between Jubilee South Africa and the Swiss Campaign.
For now, thank you very much for the present effort.
I have been able to secure a hall in the Faculty of Humanities at Rhodes
University in Grahamstown. Professor Fred Hendricks, the Dean of the
Faculty is himself a long-term radical intellectual. He has done separate
academic work on the debt issue. He has therefore given us access to the
hall. He, his administrator - Karen - and his companion Dr. Monica
Hendricks will help us in many different ways, including advertising the
event, preparing snacks and drinks for the occasion and chairing the
proceedings.
You and your staff can therefore safely put the Grahamstown meeting into
your formal itinerary. You can also advertise it anyway you wish to. The
meeting will commence at 12:45 and end at 2 pm on March 14, in the Faculty
of Humanities at Rhodes University. The meeting will be build as a
collaboration between the Apartheid Debt and Reparations Campaign, the Swiss
Campaign and the Masifunde Education & Development Project. Jubilee
activists will come in from Port Elizabeth, East London and Queenstown to
join those in Grahamstown. TCOE committees in Grahamstown, King Williams
Town and Cala will offer relevant solidarity assistance. We are inviting
Dr. Marg Jobson, who resides in Grahamstown to come to the launch together
with whatever colleagues she can bring in from Khulumani. We shall draw up
a programme for the day and forward it to all the participating people
including yourselves.
Kind regards
Yours sincerely
M.P. Giyose
