SACP TO CELEBRATE ITS 87TH ANNIVERSARY IN GALESHEWE
The 29th to 31st July marks the 87th Anniversary of the formation of
the Communist Party of South Africa, which was relaunched as the South
African Communist Party after the CPSA was banned by the apartheid
regime under the draconian laws.
We are the oldest communist party in Africa. We are the bearers of a
proud tradition. It was communists who pioneered progressive trade
unionism, non-racialism, radical journalism, the cooperative movement,
and working class internationalism in South Africa. It was communists
who, in the late 1920s, identified the still embryonic ANC as a
formation to be forged into a mighty, mass-based national liberation
movement capable of leading our people to liberation. Through the
struggles of our people - the defiance campaigns, peasant revolts, the
armed struggle, underground work, the building of organs of popular
power - Communists have provided both leadership and ordinary
rank-and-file activism. From Johannes Nkosi to Chris Hani many of the
great martyrs of our struggle have been communists. We are a Party of
activism.
We are also a Party of revolutionary theory. We are committed to
providing a programmatic, strategic vision of the challenges
confronting our struggle at any given moment. We are Party steeled in
the ups and downs of revolutionary struggle. Through the 1990s and
into the new century, when capitalism appeared to be all conquering,
when many lost heart and abandoned the struggle against a system based
on profits for the few, we kept the red flag flying.
To mark this proud history, the SACP will hold a commemorative rally as follows:
Date: 03 August 2008.
Time: 10h00
Venue: Open Air Arena, Galeshewe Township, Kimberly, Northern Cape Province.
The main speaker at the rally will be Comrade Blade Nzimande, the
General Secretary of the SACP. The leadership of the ANC, the General
Secretary of COSATU, the National Secretary of the YCL., the ANC YL
and the ANC WL will also address the rally.
Members of the press are hereby invited to attend.
Issued by the SACP.
