Editor of Zimbabwean news service is shot

The editor of ZimOnline, an independent Zimbabwean news service based in South Africa, is in serious condition after being shot by one of three assailants. The attackers approached Abel Mutsakani on Monday night as he parked at home in Johannesburg. One shot him, rupturing his lung and leaving a bullet near his heart. Nothing was stolen. Mutsakani was once managing editor of Zimbabwe's best-selling Daily News, banned in 2003 by the government. He moved to Johannesburg and set up ZimOnline, providing critical coverage of the social and economic strife back home.
