[DEBATE] : Prof. Chetty and academic freedom

The following resolution was passed at the South African Sociological Association's AGM.

 

ACADEMIC FREEDOM AND PROF. DASRETH CHETTY

 

SASA defends the right to freedom of expression, which includes academic freedom, and urges all members to uphold and defend these freedoms.

 

SASA censures Prof. Dasreth Chetty for bringing a defamation case against the then President of SASA, Prof. Jimi Adesina, which, had it been successful, would have discouraged members of the academic community from practicing these freedoms.
