Yes, he passed away a couple of years ago, without ever (as I recall)
explicitly supporting the movements that sprang up in his ('Tobin Tax')
name. He was, after all, an economist, and not prone to alliance with
progressive activists.
And thankfully ATTAC has moved a long way beyond financial transaction
taxes. I was with their Norway group last Monday when they launched a
terrific new book, Economic Apartheid. The German ATTAC is going strong.
But I gather the French group had an ugly split recently, partly over
ideology, partly over a stolen election.
