if anyone had cause to doubt the importance of the famous 1996 paper by ashwin desai and heinrich boemke, 'death of the intellectual, birth of the salesman', (Debate, 3) they'd do very well to reread it with the paper below.....ten years on the verdict is pretty clear.....
