one good thing about the final deal is that the two task teams will have to take their deals to mass meetings for approval before anything is signed off.

Joint Communique
Agreement between the Executive and Four Unions Signed
At a Joint Bargaining Forum (JBF) meeting this morning, the University Executive and the four UKZN Unions signed a final agreement ceasing the current strike action.
In terms of the agreement, all staff will receive a further 3% increase in salary, in addition to the 4% granted in January 2006, as well as an increase of R100 in housing allowance. The medical allowance will be increased by R200 for those staff not on any University medical aid scheme.
In addition, the University will withdraw its current court action against the Unions and will not implement the "no work no pay" rule.
The University and the Unions have agreed to set up two joint task teams. One task team will address the management and related issues raised during the strike action. The other will embark upon an examination of the financial position of the University. The task teams shall table a report of their findings to the JBF for consideration and onward submission to the University Executive and Council, no later than 30 March 2006.
