OPEN LETTER TO THE BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA AND PRESIDENT HUGO CHAVEZ





The Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign, the Palestinian grassroots movement against the Wall that ghettoizes our people, would like to thank the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its president, Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, for their principled decision to call back the Venezuelan ambassador from Tel Aviv. This courageous step is valued by all of our people as the model of action we would expect the world to take to protest against the continued war crimes, the Occupation and the colonial apartheid regime Israel represents.



The support for the struggle of the Palestinian and Lebanese people against the Zionist project of ethnic cleansing has been expressed by you on many occasions. The fact that it has been translated this time in concrete action installs gratitude and hope in the people in Palestine and Lebanon. In the Arab world and far beyond, the people are expressing their appreciation for this act of solidarity in their slogans and the placards in their mobilizations. 



For more than 58 years the Occupation has continuously violated Human Rights, international conventions and all UN resolutions relating to Arab rights.

Since the creation of Israel, the world nations have passed over hundreds of resolutions demanding that the Occupation respect the rights of the Palestinian people and the people in the other Arab states. Yet, Apartheid Israel has continued its aggressions against the Palestinian people under the excuse of "self-defense" in order to consolidate its grip over Palestine and the region. Israel's latest war in Lebanon is certainly not the first time the Occupation has expanded its aggression beyond Palestine to other Arab states. The recent and ongoing bombings of Beirut are reminiscent of the destruction of the city and the mass killings of its people in 1982, just like the recent massacre in Qana which has an eerie resemblance to 10 years earlier when over 100 civilian residents of Qana were killed.



While the world is watching, horrified by the war crimes against the Lebanese population, the Occupation continues its policies of expulsion and killings through the wanton bombings and attacks on the Gaza Strip and the accelerated construction of the Apartheid Wall aimed to ghettoize the Palestinians within the West Bank.



Governments all over the world have given out statements but none of them has been willing to take concrete action. This inaction - or complicity - of international diplomacy betrays our people and our calls to exert clear pressure on the Occupation and contradicts the international conventions and treaties these same governments have
ratified.



As Palestinian people struggling for our existence against the fourth most powerful army in the world and the last apartheid regime, we need to know that we are not alone. The withdrawal of the Venezuelan ambassador has given us new confidence and hope that the solidarity with our cause is gaining strength until Justice will prevail over Impunity.



However, this move should not remain isolated. It is crucial that the other governments of this world start to listen to the people they are representing and to respect the treaties they have signed. The people in Spain, Chile, Brazil, Costa Rica, South Africa and many other countries have started campaigns to ask for the interruption of diplomatic ties with the Occupation. In many Latin American countries, such as Argentina, Uruguay and Panama, the people in their mass mobilizations have clearly chosen the side of the occupied people denouncing the discourse of equidistance between the colonizer and the colonized, resistance and state terrorism.



We are thus calling upon all governments to follow the example of the Bolivarian Republic to use their diplomatic and economic power until the respect of the full rights of the Palestinian and Lebanese and all other Arab people is ensured.



Words are not enough. As we are continuing to struggle against the definitive ethnic cleansing of Palestine, it is time to act to end Israeli impunity.  The current silence and inaction of the world leaders are a form of complicity that will weigh on all of Humanity.



We ask the world to continue to engage in sustained action to isolate Apartheid Israel until our struggle achieves Liberation, Justice and Dignity for our people and the refugees can return to their homes.

CARTA ABIERTA A LA REPUBLICA  BOLIVARIANA DE VENEZUELA Y SU PRESIDENTE HUGO CHAVEZ





La Campaña contra el Muro del Apartheid, el movimiento popular palestino contra el Muro que está encerrando en guetos a nuestra gente, quiere agradecer a la República Bolivariana de Venezuela y a su presidente, Sr. Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, por su consecuente decisión de retirar el embajador venezolano desde Tel Aviv. Este valiente gesto ha sido valorado por toda nuestro pueblo como un modelo a seguir por el resto del mundo para protestar contra los continuados crímenes de guerra, la ocupación y el régimen colonial de apartheid que Israel representa.



El apoyo a la lucha de los pueblos de Palestina y el Líbano contra el proyecto sionista de limpieza étnica ha sido expresado por ustedes en muchas ocasiones. El hecho de que esta vez ha sido traducido en una acción concreta, genera gratitud y esperanza en la población palesitina y libanesa. En todo el mundo árabe y el resto del mundo, la gente está expresando su aprecio por este acto de solidaridad en sus discursos y carteles durante sus movilizaciones.



Por más de 58 años, la ocupación ha violado continuamente violado los derechos humanos, las convenciones internacionales y todas las resoluciones de la ONU relativas a los derechos árabes. Desde la creación de Israel, las naciones del mundo han aprobado cientos de resoluciones demandando que la ocupación respete los derechos del pueblo palestino y los pueblos de los otros estados árabes. No obstante, el Apartheid de Israel ha continuado sus agresiones contra el pueblo palestino bajo la excusa de la "autodefensa" para consolidar sus garras sobre Palestina y la región. La última guerra de Israel en el Líbano ciertamente no es la primera vez que la ocupación ha expandido su agresión más allá de Palestina a otros estados árabes. Los recientes y actuales bombardeos sobre Beirut nos recuerdan la destrucción de la ciudad y los asesinatos en masa de su población en 1982, o como también la reciente masacre en Qana que ha sido una barrida que recuerda a la realizada 10 años atrás cuando más de 100 civiles residentes de Qana fueron asesinados.



Mientras el mundo está mirando, horrorizado por los crímenes de guerra contra la población libanesa, la ocupación continúa sus políticas de expulsión y asesinatos a través de crueles bombardeos y ataques sobre la Franja de Gaza y la acelerada construcción del Muro del Apartheid que espera encerrar a toda la población palestina en una serie de guetos al interior de Cisjordania.



Los gobiernos de todo el mundo han lanzado comunicados, pero ninguno ha tenido la voluntad de realizar acciones concretas. Esta inactividad - o complicidad - de la diplomacia internacional traiciona a nuestro pueblo y nuestras demandas que exigen una presión clara sobre la ocupación y contradice las convenciones y tratados internacionales que esos mismos gobiernos han ratificado.



Como parte del pueblo palestino que luchamos por nuestra existencia contra el cuarto ejército más poderoso del mundo y el ultimo régimen de apartheid en la historia, necesitamos saber que no estamos solos. La retirada del embajador venezolano ha renovado nuestra confianza y esperanzas en que la solidaridad con nuestra causa se fortalecerá hasta que la justicia se imponga sobre la impunidad.



Sin embargo, este gesto no debe quedar aislado. Es crucial que otros gobiernos del mundo comiencen a escuchar a los pueblos que ellos representan y a respetar los tratados que ellos han firmado. Los pueblos en España, Chile, Brasil, Costa Rica, Sudáfrica y en muchos otros países han comenzado campañas para pedir la interrupción de lazos diplomáticos con la Ocupación. En muchos países latinoamericanos, como Argentina, Uruguay y Panamá, los pueblos en sus movilizaciones masivas se han puesto de manera explícita del lado de los pueblos ocupados, denunciando el discurso neutral que iguala al colonizador con el colonizado, a la resistencia con el terrorismo.



Por eso, estamos llamando a todos los gobiernos para seguir el ejemplo de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela a usar el poder de sus facultades diplomáticas y económicas para presionar a la ocupación hasta que se asegure el respeto a todos los derechos del pueblo palestino y libanés y de todos los otros pueblos árabes.



Las palabras ya no son suficientes. Tal como nosotros estamos luchando contra la limpieza étnica definitiva de puestro pueblo en Palestina, es el momento de actuar para terminar con la impunidad israelí. El actual silencio e inacción de los líderes del mundo son parte de la complicidad que avergonzará a toda la humanidad.



Pedimos al mundo continuar en su compromiso sostenido para aislar al Apartheid de Israel hasta que nuestra lucha consiga nuestra liberación, obtenga justicia y asegure dignidad para nuestro pueblo, permitiendo además que todos los refugiados palestinos puedan volver a sus hogares de donde fueron expulsados.



¡Fin al colonialismo y racismo israelí!

¡Fin a las masacres en Palestina, el Líbano y en todo Medio Oriente!

¡Aislar el Apartheid de Israel AHORA!

¡Viva Palestina Libre!
