Comrades,
We have some good news. The celebrated trade unionist, activist and writer
Femi Aborisade – who spent years in Nigerian jails for his work in the
pro-democracy movement – has been reinstated. Femi was fired from Ibadan
Polytechnic for overtly political reasons; for leading protests against the
corrupt state regime. The fight is not completely won, but this is cause to
celebrate. Thanks to everyone who helped in the campaign.

Leo

Dear Leo,
I wish to thank all of those who participated in the 'Justice For Femi'
international campaign to protest against my unjust sacking from Ibadan
Polytechnic in 2000, under the regime of Lam Adesina, the then Governor of
Oyo State.

I want to inform and thank all those involved in the campaign that I have
now been reinstated by a new Governing Council and Rector of the
Polytechnic. In coming to the decision, the authorities of the Polytechnic
asserted that my dismissal was unjust and a disservice to the institution.
However, my rights, particularly in terms of promotion and appropriate
salary scale are yet to be resolved.

I am grateful for the international solidarity I received during this
difficult period. My convictions about the possibility of a new world based
on international solidarity have been strengthened.

Please convey my thanks to friends, supporters and comrades.

Femi Aborisade
